1998 Dodge Avenger

Purchased in the fall of 1999, this car was originally outfitted with the Road Runner's 493 and a 727 Torqueflite.  After testing the car for several months, the 493 was swapped out for a 596 cubic inch megablock and a powerglide.  This motor was the 596 out of the Roy Holcomb IHRA Top Dragster National Championship car.  The original 596 motor was replaced with a new 596 after a broken crankshaft at the 4th Million Dollar drag race in Montgomery, Al.  The new 596 made great power and consistently ran the car in the mid eight second bracket on motor alone.  A Cheater NOS kit with a 200 HP shot pushed the car into the low eights.  The goal was a seven second pass but we never quite made it.

The loss of the Rapala/Blue Fox sponsorship resulted in the black paint.  We told everyone we were in mourning.  This was a great five year relationship and we were very sad to see it end.  We had big plans for the future which included a new Hardtail RED.

The car was very competitive in both Super Comp and Super Gas.  The car was sold the end of 2004 to help finance the purchase of our 2005 Miller RED.
